Perhaps an update
Jul. 16th, 2008 06:42 pmIt has been an extremely peculiar week. As of Thursday, I set out for Warriors and Warlords, in Wisconsin. Overall, the event wasn't bad, despite not one, but two weather based failures of my pavilion. The first time, we hadn't gotten it all the way up before a heavy storm (with fifty mile an hour winds) blew up and tried to take off with it. The pavilion was hurriedly unerected, and we fled for the safety of the shade fly. Later that evening, the entire pavilion got taken to the local laundromat and redried, to be put up the next day.
On the morning of day two, after lots of tasty food and a trip to the hardware store, the pavilion went up, and was stable and steady from then on. We were told that no more evil weather was expected. They lied! Friday evening, it happened again. The wind blew the canopy hard enough that the pole began to seriously tip away from vertical. Once this happens, there's really no going back, and eventually the pavilion went over. I was in it, which was exciting, but less dangerous than it sounds. Belongings were rescued, and the torrential downpour had most of us very moist.
Rather than stay and be further wet and unhappy, it was determined that
samadi and I would depart early. We hung out for the greater part of Saturday, and I bought some delightful pottery that A. works for my persona, B. is really pretty and C. seems to be really durable. Given how I treat my belongings, this latter is pretty important.
samadi bought a lovely sari and learned to wrap it. All in all, it was a low key event. Saturday evening, we took off and visited
space_geek_ken for a few days.
Now, I'm in Milwaukee, hanging out in
samadi's apartment. This is the apartment hunting run, so that I can hopefully actually make it to Milwuakee this time. Luck so far has been mixed. I've seen two cheap apartments that are way too small, one affordable-ish apartment that was rather meh, one nice apartment that was rather expensive, and one cheap apartment that I like a good deal, but which doesn't open till October. So far, October apartment is in the lead.
Technically, we haven't seen the unit itself, but the one upstairs, so tomorrow I'm going to go see the actual one that'd be for rent. The property manager is quite nice, and I like the building, but October is about a month longer than I was originally intending to stay in Chambana. However, it may be doable. I shall have to see tomorrow how the real one looks.
