Well, that's been a year, hasn't it? Let's see if we can do better this time round, neh?

I was 13 in 1993, living at my grandparents a bit outside of Gerrardstown, WV, and was in the 8th grade at Musselman Middle School. I'd just had my first bout of suicidal ideations, was largely socially clueless, and read pretty much constantly. I'd only recently decided I wanted to be an illustrator/writer when I grew up.

My thirteen year old self would be...

...surprised at our relationship, or lack thereof, with my father. I had just started to get angry at him, but was still in the middle of all the conflicting things that happen when you love family, but don't like them. I'd have expected to either be close, or hate him.

...unsurprised that we did end up writing and making art for a living, but startled at the form it has taken and how difficult it really is.

...shocked by our relationship structure and sexual orientation

...awed by the fact that we have become the sort of person we used to idolize, in terms of general weirdness

...disappointed by the fact that our idealism is increasingly tinged with pragmatism

...startled by where we ended up, in a religious sense

...delighted by our rats

...confused that we did not get married and have kids
