It's been suggested to me that, since I research things constantly, I should either start a blog about them or add them to this journal. Would people like to see a routine account of the weird things I'm working on? Documentation may be sketchy, since a lot of it is brain to text. If so, would you prefer it go on this blog, or do you think I should make a whole new one dedicated to weird stuff I do?
Examples of current projects/research:
- Last night I looked up all the different kinds of soy sauce. China has three major categories, Japan five, Thailand two, Korea one, and I don't remember about Vietnam.
- Angela and I have been picking up fallen black walnuts from the tree in our yard and one along our walking route. She's collecting the nuts. I'm collecting the hulls. Right now, I'm cooking down some hulls to make black/brown ink/dye concentrate/whathave you.
- In my search for a sewing machine stand or table to hold my 1947/8 Singer 128, I picked up another machine in its stand, figuring that I'm unlikely to be able to find a table that's right for the machine for the $15 dollars it cost, plus, hey, new machine. The new machine's a 1943? Singer 15-91, but it needs a new bobbin case, bobbins, and a new plug put on.
- While walking the black walnut route today (we're walking to Rivendell) we discovered that there are 4 big Chinese chestnut trees in Hessel Park. Chestnut collection will ensue.
- I have before, after, and progress pics that could be posted regarding the painting of my wardrobe trunk.
- I am engaged in a test project, attempting to recreate japanned papier mache work.
